Zero-Waste Initiative
As much recycling as is possible
What.3d printing is an undeniably great technology. Rapid production of items designed in-house and manufactured with plant-based plastics sounds like something out of science fiction, but disregards the amount of waste product generated by the process.
Brims, failed prints, and support structures all count as waste products, and though PLA is technically biodegradable, this occurs over the span of decades, rather than weeks or months. Until recently, injection molding processes have been 2-3 orders of magnitude outside my budget, but the recent shifts in the manufacturing sector have led to new opportunities for small artists and businesses to easily enter small-scale production . My proposal is as follows: You give me money, and I buy a machine that melts down my waste products directly into usable items. I then send you those items. This has many benefits such as: -No cost to transport waste to a new facility -Minimal materials lost -Molded items will be a blend of colors -Molded items will be food-safe -Full control of process In the near future, I plan on expanding this project to creating filament, forming a closed loop in materials usage with multiple injection points. |
Preorder. The items in this project are NOT available yet, they are pre-orders for a product that WILL exist.
Your pledge helps fund the project. Once fully funded, production will begin as soon as is possible Estimated timeline is 3-6 months, however this is only an estimate. |
